2007 Skoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship

This year's Skoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship attracted nearly 700 social entrepreneurs, thought leaders, policy makers, corporate representatives, financiers, philanthropists and students from more than 40 countries. For three days, we convened a series of plenaries, panel discussions, workshops and academic presentations designed for learning, problem solving and community building on the topic of "Social Innovation and Diffusion." Among the speakers were:
- Jeff Skoll, founder and Chairman, Skoll Foundation and Participant Productions
- Muhammad Yunus, 2006 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Grameen Bank founder and microfinance pioneer
- Peter Gabriel, musician, activist, cofounder and Chair of WITNESS
- David Galenson, Professor in the Department of Economics, University of Chicago, and best-selling author of numerous books on creativity and innovation
- Dr. Larry Brilliant, Executive Director, Google.org, founder and former Director of the Seva Foundation
- Bill Drayton, CEO and Chair, Ashoka
- Jeroo Billimoria, founder, Child Savings International
- Fazle Abed, founder, BRAC
- Susan Collin Marks, Senior Vice President, Search for Common Ground
- Ashok Khosla, President, Development Alternatives Group
- Nina Smith, Executive Director, RugMark
- J.B. Schramm, founder and CEO, College Summit, Inc.
- Salman Ahmad, Pakistani musician, artist, activist and founder of South Asia’s internationally renowned rock band, Junoon
A highlight of the World Forum was the inspiring Skoll Awards Ceremony at the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford, which honored individual social entrepreneurs from all over the world who are creating positive, systemic change across critical issue areas, including the environment, institutional responsibility, health, peace and security, social and economic equity, and tolerance and human rights.

Skoll Foundation Adds Eleven Pioneering Organizations to its Global Portfolio of Leading Social Entrepreneurs : 3/11/2008 The Skoll Foundation today announced Skoll Awards for Social Entrepreneurship for 11 organizations working around the world in the areas of tolerance and human rights, health, environmental sustainability, peace and security, and economic and social equity. The recipients, who will each receive three-year grants of $1,000,000, join a growing global network of Skoll social entrepreneurs, now numbering 59, who have created innovative, proven solutions for tackling the world’s most urgent social and economic challenges. |
